Overview of measurements and inspections performed by the RoboInspect RIS 210

Geometry measurement

During geometry measurement, the actual dimensions of the component are determined by optical measurement and compared with the specified nominal dimensions and tolerances from the component drawing.

The selection of the measurements to be executed is done via a toolbox (M-Box). The M-Box gives complete freedom in the definition of the measurements by means of clearly arranged masks.

Standard measurements can be chosen, such as

  • lengths
  • widths
  • heights
  • roll pin
  • radii
  • angles
  • inner circle
  • outer circle
  • form check

+ additional customized measurements, such as

  • additional angles
  • additional radii
  • additional lengths and widths

All measurements are carried out simultaneously with transmitted light technology.

Cutting edge inspection

The inspection of the cutting edge is an important factor for the assessment of the insert quality.

The following can be detected in the RoboInspect RIS 210:

  • Cutting edge chippings
  • Cutting edge burrs
  • Form deviations

The opto-electronic sensor, especially developed for cutting edge inspection, circumscribes the complete contour of the part and takes overlapping images at a specific angle. It determines the difference between the nominal and actual contour in real time and delivers the result to the evaluation unit.

The transmitted light is coupled to the optical axis of the sensor and ensures consistent illumination and thus repeatable evaluation results.

Surface inspections

Relief inspection

The RoboInspect RIS 210 inspects the surface structure from above, below and laterally in reflected light.

Defects are detected

  • at cutting edges
  • on surfaces

In addition, a symmetry inspection and a type recognition can be carried out with the relief inspection. The symmetry inspection compares the symmetry of the outer contour with the symmetry of the chip breaker.

Type recognition is used to detect mixed parts that have the same outer contour but different chip breakers.

Color inspection of coated parts

Color deviations or coating-spalls of the covering layer may occur, especially when coating with CVD or PVD processes. Color inspections are carried out in the RoboInspect RIS 210 in reflected light from above, below and laterally.

The system reliably detects

  • global color deviations of the complete part
  • color gradients
  • local coating defects on the surface
  • local coating defects in the edge area

Operation of the machine

The system is operated with a touch screen via a graphical user interface. The new HMI supports the teach-in of new part types, the selection of part types for which teach-in has already been done via product management, and the parameterization of the statistics and logging functions via clear and intuitive dialog boxes.

The storage of all generated images as well as inspection and measurement data enables 100% traceability of defects. The data is stored on the machine, but can also be transferred to a customer server, e.g. via an Ethernet interface.

Gripper portfolio

For safe and smooth handling of parts, ROBOWORKER has an extensive gripper portfolio, from magnetic and ring magnetic grippers, jaw grippers, vacuum/suction grippers to servomotor-driven grippers with additional functions, such as tilting.

Extensions of the RoboInspect RIS 210

For even more flexibility, the RoboInspect RIS 210 can be extended with various additional stations:

  • with automatic tray loading
  • with laser marking station
  • with packaging modules
